“ We first discovered Manigod quite by accident during a summer holiday. Such was our love of the area, we wanted to see the mountains in the winter covered with snow. The sight that greeted us with deep, deep snow glistening like a sea of jewels was one we will never forget. In fact, we never wanted to leave.
So………….quite by chance we saw in an estate agents window a little wooden chalet for sale and for some reason we knew in that instant we had to have a little hideaway in the mountains. And hideaway it is – Chalet La Luna is in the most tranquil, peaceful setting, surrounded by pine trees and the mountain views are breathtaking. The only sounds to be heard are the birds singing and the trees gently rustling. On the other hand, it is not cut off from civilization and the little town of Manigod is just a few kilometres down the road.
The busy bustling town of Thônes is about 20mins down the same road. The Saturday market is a must.Or, similarly, the bustling town of La Clusaz is up the mountain road some 20 mins away with excellent restaurants and shops. The beauty of this area is all year round. During the months April – October it is a haven for walkers. There are walks on the doorstep into the pine forests, down into Manigod or higher up the mountains, the choice is yours. And there are many. Every which way you look there are mountains beckoning. If you would rather go up in a ski lift and walk down, you can walk as far or for a little as you wish. There are gorges with nature walks through the pine forests; the wild life, flowers and butterflies are in abundance. Also during the summer months there are many other activities such as paragliding, mountain biking, swimming, golf, cart racing, rafting, a boat trip on the Lake of Annecy to name but a few. The town of Annecy is a delight – with the old town and its waterways merging so well with the newer part of the town. Eating out ‘al fresco’ is a joy either overlooking the Lake or in the midst of the hustle and bustle. Market day, with the fresh produce, is certainly worth a visit.During the months of December – March it is a haven for skiers/snowboarders/snow walkers.
The La Croix Fry sector of the La Clusaz pistes is just up the mountain road and is ideal for both beginners and intermediates; there is an ESF ski school there that is very family oriented. The area is also very good for those who ski walk, there are many tracks through the pine forests to nearby La Clusaz and many other places. Or, just sit out by the bar at the edge of the slopes, if the sun is shining (and it shines a lot during the winter months) under the azure blue sky and watch the skiers (and getting a suntan of course!). La Clusaz is about 20 mins away, Grand Bornand is about 30 mins away.
The Haute Savoie region offers something for everyone from fine cuisine to stunning mountain towns and villages for an all-year-round perfect break. Each experience we have had here has been good for the soul – we never want to leave.
We hope you will enjoy your stay, whenever you may come, and find the Chalet comfortable and welcoming.”
